The Positive Intervention Room (PIR) is a behavioral and crisis management system that is aimed at reducing inappropriate student behavior using a structured and guided time out process directed by a trained teacher. Significant participants in the PIR process include the classroom teacher, the student, the dean, and the student’s parents. The first priority of PIR is to create a positive, safe, and productive haven outside of the classroom for students who disrupt the learning environment. The ultimate goal of the Positive Intervention Room is to change student behavior through the student’s repeated effort to make appropriate behavioral choices.
