Joliet Central Army JROTC
JROTC is a course elective students can take instead of physical education (gym) class. The Purpose of ROTC is to “motivate young people to be better citizens”. There is no military obligation incurred by taking ROTC, and it is not a hidden recruiting program for the military.
JROTC curriculum teaches applied life skills that are useful regardless of a student’s career path after high school. Curriculum subjects include:
Basic and applied small group leadership
Financial planning
Communication skills
Time Management
US Flag protocol customs and courtesies
Anger management and conflict resolution
Goal setting
Self evaluation through winning colors and success profiler
Topographic map reading
First aid
Applied Citizenship
President Challenge Fitness Program
Drug awareness
Military drill
Team work
A typical class week mixes physical activities with classroom small group. Uniforms are worn once every other week. All uniform items are issued free to the student. Voluntary air rifle safety and marksmanship training is taught every year.
ROTC sponsors four clubs: Color Guard, Drill team, Rifle Team, and Raiders. Practice and meetings take place before or after school. All clubs enter competitions with other high school JROTCs
