•             University of Illinois-Chicago, Master of Urban Planning and Policy

Alfredo Melesio Jr. started building his future at Joliet Central High School. He not only worked hard in the classroom, but he also became a part of the football and wrestling team.

When Mr. Melesio was asked which teacher inspired him most, he named his English teacher, Ms. Vaughn, because, “She believed in me before I did.”

Before Mr. Melesio could start building a better future for Joliet, he needed a solid foundation of education to build on in addition to high school. He attended the University of Illinois-Champaign/Urbana where he received both a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and a Master of Urban Planning and Policy.

Mr. Melesio currently works as the Director of Neighborhood Services Division, serves as a board member for multiple organizations relating to urban development, and is co-chair of the Will County Continuum of Care. He is also implementing a 5-year consolidated plan managing $11 million in housing construction, rehabilitation, infrastructure, and demolition.

When asked what his advice would be to current students, Mr. Melesio said, “Never quit! It is all worth the effort. You have a great school. Be proud of where you come from.”
